Guided Positioning: Intraoral Scanning Applications of 3D Imaging Gel
In digital dental restoration, 3D imaging gel for dentures is applied topically to assist scanning devices in capturing three-dimensional data of specific areas, thereby improving modeling accuracy.

I. Product Positioning: Overcoming the Limitations of Spray Application
The development paste is suitable for detailed areas that are difficult to cover with traditional spray powders:
It is designed for spot or line application on narrow areas such as implant scan bars, abutment margins, and shoulder areas of prepared teeth.
The paste has a certain degree of fluidity, allowing it to fill undercuts and gaps, making it easier for optical probes to capture contours.
Compared to spray-type products, the paste offers greater control during precise marking
II. Ingredients and Packaging: Ready-to-Use Design
The development paste uses ingredients safe for oral use and is primarily packaged in small doses:
Common ingredients include titanium dioxide, barium sulfate, and an aqueous matrix; it contains no irritating solvents
Packaged in syringe-style tubes or bottles with fine tips, it can be directly applied to the desired location
Some products offer different viscosity options to accommodate application on vertical or horizontal surfaces
III. Application Process: From Precise Application to Quick Removal
Drying: Use an air gun to dry the area to be scanned, ensuring the surface remains relatively dry
Dispense a measured amount: Squeeze out a rice-grain-sized amount of paste and apply it to the target area using a probe or small brush
Spread into a thin, even layer: Spread the paste evenly to cover the reflective surface without creating a thick buildup
Scan immediately: The paste provides optimal diffuse reflection while still wet; it is recommended to complete the scan shortly after application
Cleaning and Removal: After scanning, rinse with a fine mist of water or wipe off with a cotton swab, leaving no residue
IV. Applications
Enhancing marker points on implant scanning rods
Marking the margin lines of metal-ceramic crown inner crowns
Areas on plaster models requiring special attention during finishing
For dentures, 3D imaging paste serves as a complementary tool to powder, offering an alternative option for precise local positioning.
