From Scanning to Production: The Application Process of 3D Printing Powder
In denture fabrication, 3D imaging technology is used not only for intraoral scanning but also encompasses multiple digital production stages.
In denture fabrication, 3D imaging technology is used not only for intraoral scanning but also encompasses multiple digital production stages, such as model scanning and data calibration, supporting the entire process from marginal adaptation to impression taking.
I. Positioning and Calibration: Ensuring the Quality of Data Alignment
During the scanning of plaster models and the integration of CBCT data, development materials play a supporting role in ensuring positioning accuracy:
Model Fixture Markers: Filling the marker points on the scanning fixture with developer aids in the alignment and stitching of multi-angle scan data.
Whitening of Metal Components: For metal cast frameworks, attachments, or implant scan bars, spraying white developer powder eliminates high-gloss reflections from the metal.
Data Fusion: When registering intraoral scan data with CT data, the contrast agent marks serve as common reference points.
- Margin Fit Detection: Use contrast paste to identify the contact points between the denture tissue surface and the gingiva.
II. Desktop Scanners: Digital Processing of Models
The contrast agents used with desktop scanners are designed to eliminate reflections and improve surface accuracy; plaster models must be properly prepared before use:
Particle Requirements: Select a contrast powder with uniform, fine particles to ensure compatibility with high-precision desktop scanning equipment
Moisture Control: Plaster models must be thoroughly dried; performing this step before powder application helps prevent clumping
Spraying Techniques: Maintain a consistent distance between the nozzle and the model surface to ensure uniform coverage
